Our Story

With our first anniversary approaching rather quickly, I thought that I would do a couple of blogs about "our story." I seriously cannot believe that in 10 days it will be 1 year since our wedding. It seems that as I get older, the years pass a lot quicker than they used to. Anyway, Kent and I first met because of his mother. When I started working as a nurse, she oriented me to our chronic area. She always said that she wanted me to meet her son, but I just kind of blew it off, not really thinking about it. I started dating a guy and blew it off even more. Well, as the Garth Brooks song goes, "Thank God for unanswered prayers!!!!!!!" The relationship was not very healthy and as in all of my previous relationships, when it was over, it hit me like a ton of bricks and I started asking myself what in the world was I thinking. Life experiences: you definitely learn a lot about yourself and others, and vow to never do some things again! I digress. During this time, Donna and I became good friends, going shopping on our week off, going to broadway shows, etc. I had been around Kent a couple of times when we went to dinner, so we knew who each other were. Anyway, after the breakup I was single for a couple of months, not really wanting to date seriously. Just taking it day by day. In early February, Donna, says something else about going out with Kent. I just said, "Just tell him to call me." I didn't really put much faith in it, and was not about to call him. Call me old-fashioned, but I will not be the first one to make a move. So, at the end of Feb, I was getting ready for church on a Sun morning and when I was finished drying my hair, I had a message on my answering machine. It was Kent. I think that I listened to it about 5 times, not believing that he had actually called and trying to decide when I should call him back. I didn't want to call him back right away, because I didn't want it to seem like I had no life and no plans. I ended up calling him back that evening and we made plans to go to dinner that next Friday night. I really didn't know how to handle the whole situation with Donna and working together, so I just decided that I wasn't going to say anything about it to her. It was just really awkward! Well, on Thurs morning before I left, I heard Donna ask if I was still there. I was and she puts her hand on her hips and says, "Do you have something you want to tell me?" I said, "I am going out with your son tomorrow night!?!" There was an uproar on the floor, doctors, nurse practitioners were all asking questions. It was the talk of the tower. Come to find out, one of my friends that works evening shift had said something to Donna on Monday asking her if she was excited. Donna of course didn't know anything about it, and swore that she wasn't going to say anything until one of us did. Well, Kent and I went to Bonefish Grill on our first date, then he took me out to where he was building a house. The only thing that was there was the foundation, but I think it's kinda neat that on our first date we went to what has now turned into our home. Well, I think that's enough for this post. If you are still reading, thanks for letting me reminisce. Stay tuned for the next one.
